Soil and plantsn and watering for marigolds and four oclock flowers

Question
Hi,
I wanted to plant some flowers but I don't know when to plant them. I have Four O'clock flowers and Marigolds. What month should I plant them?

AND

I also have pet fish and when one of them dies then I bury them in the flower pot. One of my friends say that that will make the soil's quality better. I know it's good for the  soil but the soil is starting to stink. I really don't like the stench and I wanted to know if there is a safe way to get rid of it without harming any plants.

AND

I also wanted to ask about watering. Some of the plants I've planted have died from over-watering and I don't want that to happened again. Is there a safe amount of water that I can add? I also wanted to know how often I should water the plants?
P.s My flower pot is small. 4 inches across and 3 inches deep.

Answer
Hi Manahil,

The houseplants forum is the wrong forum for questions about your outdoor plants. Try the outdoor gardening forum.

Any decaying organic matter, including dead fish and food scraps, has some nutritional value for plants. However, food substances should never be used for indoor plants because they smell and attract insects and do not decay properly as they would outdoors. Indoor plants use very little nutrients anyway and most good potting soils are fine, as is.

I cannot advise you on proper watering of a plant without knowing what plant species you have.
