Question
Aloe Vera
I have an aloe vera plant. It is fairly big, in a big pot. Using moisture control soil. Recently the leaf portion of the plant starting at the tip (away from the root) has been starting to brown more like spotting than turning colors (photo attached) What is this and how can I fix it and/or stop it.
AnswerBecky,
It appears to me to be the red tinges that appears on many succulents when they are healthy and getting a lot of sun. It is not a problem, it indicates they are very healthy and happy. If you want it to go away then move it away from the window so it gets less light. I am more concerned that it is in too large a pot and therefore will never dry out. The moisture control soil is a problem also. Aloe plants come from the plains of Africa which is very similar to a desert. They need to be in very sandy cactus type soil and thee pot should be no larger diameter than the width of the leaf span. When the pot is too large and you are using that moisture control soil the plant will never dry out and the roots will begin to rot. It appears healthy now but i would move it very soon to a smaller pot and put it in cactus soil. It needs to be ddry for at least 3 days between waterings. Good luck.
