QuestionHi Tracy, wonder if you can help. I started 3 of my amaryllis indoor like I do every year and they started making green leafs and look nice, but they seem to be not interested in flowering which is odd and has never happened to me before... Would you know why or what I can try? Thanks
AnswerHi Gertie,
To be honest I have more experience with foliage plants than blooming plants and I have never grown amaryllis but I asked a friend who works in a botanical garden about your problem. He told me that there are 3 common reasons why amaryllis fail to bloom, too short of a resting (dormant) period, insufficient light and not enough fertilizer in the soil.
Try setting the plants in better light and give them just a little fertilizer.
He also said that if you remove some of the foliage leaves, it could force the plant to send out flower stalks.
I hope this helps. If you have any questions or need additional information please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks
Tracy
