Question
whole mother plant
Mother plant is two to three feet tall. Requires very little water and partial sun. Blooms in late summer early fall a white tubular flower that produces two pink seed pods. Leaves are thick and dark green and stub of the plant is thick and thins out as the leaves come in. If you can Id i would be so grateful as we have been trying to ID this plant for ten years.
AnswerHi Emma,
Your mystery plant is an Aglaonema commutatum, more commonly called Chinese Evergreen.
Your text description was so good that I could have ID'd it without the photo! But I appreciate having the photo for confirmation.
Because it grows ever taller and tends to slowly lose some older, lower leaves, eventually you will want to prune it by cutting off the top half and inserting that cutting in the same pot. This will help fill out the lower portion of the pot. New growth will emerge from the cut stem and grow upward from there.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
