Question
ming tree
My Ming tree did well this summer when i purchased it. In the last 3 weeks it started losing its foliage. I took it out of the soil and it had mushy bark and holes in the center. The roots are still alive and I still have some wilty foliage left. I also decovered tiny white bugs all in it,and a slighty bigger black bug with larger clear wings. They are also all in the root system. Is there hope,I love the tree. Thank you for taking the time to help me.

AnswerHi Connie,
I'm afraid it is too late for me to help you. There really are no significant roots remaining. It is the large mass of very fine roots and root hairs that do almost all of the work. Without them, there is no way for the plant to absorb water and vital nutrients.
How did this happen? It is most likely that the roots died because of over watering, although excessive dryness can also cause the roots to die. The critters, have simply emerged to take advantage of the situation, but they are not the cause of the roots dying.
If you have any healthy stems with foliage, you can take some cuttings and try rooting them.
Sorry to deliver the bad news.
