Questionwhat type of liquid should I feed this plant?
AnswerPaula,
You have a zygo cactus or Christmas Cactus. The Mylar just refers to the plastic cover that was on it when you bought it. You absolutely should not repot it or it will drop all the blossoms. It is fine in the pot you purchased it in and if you want it more decorative you can set that pot inside a more decorative pot. The soonest you should repot it is in the spring between April 15th and June 15th. Then only move it up to a pot with a 2 inch larger diameter than the current pot.
Christmas Cactus needs to be fertilized only three or four times per year. Initially, Christmas Cactus bloom between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but gradually start to bloom earlier and more frequently each year. Do not fertilize for a month before you expect the plants to bloom. NEVER fertilize when the plant is in bloom, as the flowers will drop off. When you do fertilize it a water soluble fertilizer such as Miracle Grow for blooming plants would be fine. Any fertilizer that will dissolve in water and says it is for blooming plants is great, even a rose fertilizer is fine.

Next to the Poinsettia... "Christmas Cactus" are the second most popular house plant for the holiday season. When shopping for a "Christmas Cactus"... select one with lots of tight buds similar to the pictured plant.
"Christmas Cactus" are easy to keep... in fact I'll bet you have a grandmother that has had her plant for over 20 years. Place your Zygo cactus in any well lit area. Check your plant for water every couple of weeks... but don't let your plant get "bone" or "dust" dry. Feed your plant bi-monthly with a balanced liquid plant food.
To coax your plant to re-bloom you'll need to chill it. About 6 to 8 weeks before your want your plant to flower... place it in a cool or unheated area of 55 to 60 degrees, and leave it there for two weeks. Don't let your plant freeze outdoors. After two weeks replace your plant to it's original home. As early as Thanksgiving or as late as Christmas... your plant should flower again.
