QuestionHi, I'm wondering how common it is for m stephanotis house plant to flower and then make seed pods, my plant has twice now put out pods, this time it is bigger than an egg and is green, can you tell me something about this, thank you, Maria
AnswerMaria,
Good job, those fruit don't always set well. That fruit is described by some to be a smooth avocado but it is very poisonous so do not attempt to eat it. However the fresh seed inside it are easy to germinate, the pods are ripe when they begin to yellow and shrink a bit. They will eventually split open, but by then the seed are dormant. You need to catch the seed at ripe, but not dry, to germinate them well. Then you can have many plants quickly. Stephanotis seed like 70-80 degrees F, and dappled light, moist loamy soil with Calcium (bone meal). If you have more questions feel free to write again. Good luck.
