QuestionHello Darlene, I have a Papyrus plant that I will bring into the house for the winter. My question is do I have to leave it in a pot with soil and keep very moist or can I just place it in a vase of water for the winter and it will survive? Thank you!
AnswerAmy,
If it were my plant I would try both. I would take some cuttings of the top of the plants and float them in a bowl and they will grow a new top and be more likely to survive in a cool sunny room above freezing. I would also try to leave the original plant in a pot with soil and keep it barely moist. It is a swamp plant but in the winter most swamps dry out a lot. It won't want to dry out totally but you shouldn't keep it in standing water either. If you have an attached garage that does not freeze and has windows it would be the perfect place to put the plant for the winter. Just remember to water it weekly. Goold luck.
