QuestionHello there,
I have three small fase aralia indoors. I have had them for months without any problems. I recently repoted them in a larger pot and moved them to another side of the house. They were doing fine for a few weeks. Recently they have been slowly dying. The leaves are dying from the bottom up. I moved the plants back to there original location in the house, thinking they were not liking their new spot. They only got worse and are nearly dead now. They only have a few leaves left on the very tops now. I also thought that maybe i was overwatering them , so i repoted them with dryer soil.
I feel like i have pretty much killed them at this point, but is there anything else I can do? Im also wonderin what exactly i did wrong? If these do not make it I will probably get some more and try again, and I don't want to make the same mistakes again.
Any help or infow would be great.
Thanks!
AnswerErin,
I suspect that you moved them to too large of pots. You should only move plant to pot that have a diameter no more than 2 inches larger than the pot you removed them from. Also you transplanted them at the wrong time of year. You should only transplant houseplants between April 1st and July 30th when the days are lengthening. When the days are getting shorter as now transpanting them will throw them into transplant shock and you will have problems like you have. Even tropical plants go into a semi dormant period during the shorter days of fall and winter. They come out of it in the spring and that is the best time to transplant. Try again and keep them in the same pot all winter and put them in the sunniest location possible. They should thrive through the winter and be ready to transplant in April. Good luck.
