QuestionI just repotted a spider plant and the dirt and roots are covered with a bright yellow fungus like growth. They look and smell like mushrooms but do not have a cap at all, they are just salk like and some of the growths are 1.5 to 2 inches in length. There are also lots of small (tiny bead size) yellow ball like growths as well. Should I be worried?? What are they? Thanks!
AnswerTeresa,
Yes, you should be worried. You have poor potting soil that seems to be growing a mold. That indicates that it is not a well draining soil. It needs more perlite mixed in the soil to improve the drainage and you need to allow the soil to dry out for at least three days before you water it again or the roots will rot. Let it dry out and sspray the surface of the soil with Lysol Spray to kill the mold. Good luck.
