QuestionI have a tree/plant about 7 feet tall. some of the limbs or branches are starting to lean. Should i cut it back and if so how does that process work.
AnswerPriscilla,
You just look at the plant and take a pair of pruning shears and decide where it would look best to cut it back to. You make your cuts just above a leave joint where the leaf stem connects to the trunk. Unless you have 12 ' ceilings it does sound like you need to cut it back. If you don't cut it back you may need to pot it into a heavier clay or ceramic pot. Just make sure it has a drain hole and a drain tray under it.
This is not the best time of year to try to root the branches that you cut off the tree. You need to do that between April 1st and June 30th. You could also air layer it between April 1st and June 30th. Instructions for air layering are at the following website: http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/extension/ornamentals/airlayer/airlayer.html
If you have more questions feel free to wried again. Good luck.
