QuestionBought a money tree plant (from WM) in a 6" ceramic pot with small pebbles that are "glued?" in place. The label only says "contains soil, water normally". No other instructions. All the leaves have fallen off. I can hear water sloshing inside, but the stems have totally dried up. I've tried placing the plant inside, and outside on my east balcony. Neither seemed to help. What could be the problem?
AnswerConnie,
You have overwatered your plant. It should not be so wet that you can hear water sloshing inside. The roots have rotted so they cannot absorb water and the tree has whithered. The plant should have a drain hole so that any water you give it drains out and you should always empty the drain tray a half hour after you water it. The plant should be kept in the sunniest location possible and should be outdoors if it is above 50 degrees farenheit. Immediately after buying it you should have taken a screw driver and pryed off the glued together pebbles. They were there for shipping purposes. They should be immediately removed so you can tell if the soil is moist or dry and only water it if it is dry so you do not get root rot. I reccommend you go get another as a Christmas gift to yourself and follow these instructions. Good luck.
