Propogation of Dwarf Umbrella Tree.

Question
I have a Dwarf Umbrella Tree that I got from a co worker about a year ago. She had it amongst her other larger plants and forgot about it. It lost a lot of leaves along he main stem. It has two, about 2 1/2 foot main stems, with heavy growth on the last 1/3 or so. The rest of the stems are completely bare. They have been growing longer, and there has been growth from the base, where the two main stems meet. It has been growing very well, and is very healthy. Can I cut the two main stems off and replant them?

Answer
Emily,

If you do cut them off and dip them in rooting hormone and replant them you have a 50/50 chance that they will root. If you mist them several times a day or put a clear plastic bag over them it raises the odds to 75/25.  Then you should also leave at least a couple of inches of the old trunk and that will grow a whole new top that will be bushier than ever giving you two beautiful plants. If you have more questions write again. Good luck.
