Questionhi there,
i have one plant that was just doing wonderful, but within the last two or so months the leaves have been slowing fading, some getting black, and then dying. I don't know what is killing it, I have not done anything different to it.
Then I have a palm that has started developing this white/green/yellow looking stuff on the top of the soil. There also seems to be some bugs flying around it/in it. What is it and how do i stop it?
Thanks
Kalea
AnswerDear Kalea,
Reference your first plant have you checked the root ball to see if the roots are rotting? Have you been feeding the plant? Have you moved it to another place? What type of plant is it? There can be so many reasons for a plant suddenly collapsing - soil too dry, overwatering, strong sunshine and hot dry air, draughts, not enough light. Do you have a pet which might have urinated on the soil? Have you checked for insects?
Ref your palm you need to identify the insects, as they are flying insects they could be thrips [black], aphids [green, black, white or orange] or whitefly. Buy a reputable insecticide and follow the instructions. As regards the substance on the surface of the soil this could be a mould or fungus - I should remove it and take some to your garden centre to see if they can identify it and advise you accordingly.
I hope the above helps identify your problems.
