Question
Poorly umberella plant
I have what I believe is an umberella plant although there are only 5 leaves to a stem and they hang downwards. I have had the plant for about 4years and it was happy until it recently got a good covering of dust when I had builders in. I wiped the leaves with baby wipes to clean them and now the leaves have got big brown patches and are starting to fall off. I also repotted in a few weeks ago. Have I killed it? I usually only feed it with water. The plant is about 3ft tall
AnswerDiane,
Umberella Plants or Scheffleras are usually very resilient. It should be fine if you move it to the sunniest location possible or even outside on a sunny patio for awhile. It is a plant that loves the sun. The brown patches may be because it wasn't getting enough light with all that dust on it. It would also benefit from a dose of fertilizer at least every 3 monts. Pick up a small box of Miracle Grow and follow the directions on the box and feed it and any other plants you may have. In the future just use a wet cloth to wipe leaves. You can also shine the leaves of this plant by polishing them with just a dry soft cloth like a piece of an old tee-shirt. They have a waxy surface that will shine without applying any sprays. Give your plant more sun and it will be beautiful! Good luck.
