QuestionI have had this corn plant for about 10 years. it is about 3' tall and had 3 big branches. My son took it home and his wife watered it to much and had it out of the light. All the branches rotted and I cut them off. What should I do? The trunk is still firm. thank you CJ
AnswerDear Catherine,
Since the trunk of the plant is still firm it sounds as if you might be lucky and have new foliage appear at some stage. Have you checked the root ball to make sure the roots have not rotted? Remove plant from pot and if the roots are not rotted then leave the root ball to dry out - it could take a day or two to do so - and then replace in pot. If some of the roots are rotted then carefully cut off the rotted ones and again leave to dry out. Then it is just a case of waiting patiently for new growth to appear. Do not feed it whilst it is recovering.
I do hope you manage to bring the plant back to life and remember, in future, never give your daughter in law any plant which you treasure! Better still buy her a plant book!!
