QuestionHi, I got an Anthurium plant a few months ago and have had her near a window in my kitchen, She is my very 1st plant and I have never been very green thumbed. I water her about once a week, or when the soil is dry (sometimes I am not home for a few days). I brought her to my job today so that she can be taken care of while I am on vacation. I noticed that she has these little worms inside her. They are like a brownish beige color but not the fungus gnats (i looked them up). Her overall color is a nice green she has one leaf that has a dry brown spot on it but she is growing new stems. I was quite disgusted by the worms and started taking them out one by one, but I watered her and more of them came out. I am freaking out at the thought of having to throw away my Andie... Please Help!
AnswerDear Zoraida,
Anthuriums are gorgeous plants but not that easy to grow especially for a beginner. Couldn't you have chosen a nice easy one like an ivy or pothos?!!
I'd be freaking out at the thought of picking out all those worms! It sounds as if the root system has been attacked by vine weevils - have you noticed any bugs on the leaves? If I were you I would put a couple of the worms [grubs] in a matchbox and take to your local garden centre for identification so that you can purchase the right kind of insecticide. You want to start treating the plant as quickly as possible before the grubs take over and the plant starts wilting.
Please let me know how you [and your plant!] get on.
Good Luck
