Dividing Indoor Kentia

Question
I have a large (10 foot+) indoor Kentia palm that is actually four palms in one
pot (it has four large stalks). I'd like to divide it into 2 pots. Can this be done?
How do I go about it?

Answer
Dear Jenna - what a pretty name!

As far as I am aware Kentia palms are propagated by seed not by division.

If however you KNOW that it is definitely four palms which have been planted in the one pot and not four stalks growing from one root ball then of course you can uproot two of the stems and put them in another pot filling in the gaps in both pots with a good compost, water them and leave in a shaded spot until they recover from the shock of the move.

Good Luck

Diana

If you remove plant from pot you can find out for yourself if it is one, two, three or four plants.
