QuestionHi,
Cant scindapsus aureus live without sunlight ? Because I have a Plant and it's kept near my workplace with a temperature of 24 degree Celsius ( Airconditioner). However I cannot make available the sunlight due to various factors. But it can get light from 16 small tubelights in my chamber. Isn't that sufficient to replace the sunlight, as I can't manage the light and my window is no way near the sunlight available area; direct or indirect. Please Help.
Thank you so much
with lots of unconditional love
AnswerDear Raj,
Thanks for your unconditional love! I hope you will give that to your plant too!
Scindapsus aureus is an easy plant to grow and doesn't need sunlight but needs light to keep the variegation in its leaves otherwise they will revert to plain green. Maybe the light in your office will be sufficient but only time will tell.
Water the plant liberally between spring and autumn which is the growing season, letting the compost almost dry out between waterings - reduce water in the winter. Mist the leaves frequently to maintain humidity and make sure it is not standing in a draught from the air conditioning unit. Feed it with a proprietary fertiliser twice a month. You can put the fertiliser [powder or liquid] in water and kill two birds with one stone when you water the plant.
Many years ago I was presenting a gardening programme on television and was describing a scindapsus which was growing on the local ferry boat in the captains cabin. I described it as "The Captain has a very long one stretching right round his cabin" - you can imagine what comments were made to that! Seriously tho, the plant had been trained round and round his cabin walls and there wasn't that much light in there either.
I hope the above will be sufficient for you to keep your plant living for a long while.
