QuestionHi,
I bought a Jasmine Flower one month ago. I leave in Guelph Ontario (South West Ontario, Canada). Could you tell me if I can plant my Jasmine out side.
Thanks,
Henry
AnswerDear Henry,
I don't know the temperatures that prevail in Canada [ I am in southern Spain] but I do know that a jasmine prefers a temperature of not less than 45 degrees F in the winter - in the summer it can be placed outside as long as it is not in hot summer sunshine. It does like a little sun and plenty of bright light. Perhaps you might be able to find a position for it where it gets some early morning sun but is then protected from the fiercer midday and afternoon sun.
The compost should be kept moist at all times [never let it dry out] and the leaves misted frequently to avoid dry air surrounding it.
Since the plant is a vigorous climber it should be cut back after flowering but whilst it is still young it can be trained around a wire hoop in its pot. Don't forget to feed it once a week with a proprietary fertiliser during its growing season.
With its wonderful fragrance it is a lovely plant to have in and out of the house.
