QuestionI just bought my very first ever Kimberly Queen Fern, already a couple of the fronds are turning yellowish. Am i overwatering. I water my plants late evening (7:00p.m.) with water hose and just finished this. i noticed a few yellowish.
AnswerGood morning Cindy,
From what I can tell, your Kimberly Queen Fern is what we [not in the States] call a Sword Fern - correct me if I am wrong.
Popular conception has it that ferns only grow well in the shade indoors but in fact they do enjoy indirect light and your fern enjoys sunshine too.
I have a fern outside in afternoon sun which I water every other day in the summer and it is going great guns. If some fronds turn yellow I don't worry, that is a natural thing to happen, I just cut them off and more new ones are growing all the time.
Yes, watering late evening or early morning before the sun is on the plant are the optimum times and don't forget to feed your plant too during Spring and Summer, twice a month.
So don't worry about a couple of yellow fronds - if the whole plant turns yellow that is different all together and would no doubt be due to overwatering.
I hope the above helps you.
