QuestionToday I received a full flat of "palm grass" left over from a local garden store's Mother's Day project. The only problem is "palm grass" (while an apt description of the plant's appearance) is not the proper name for the plant! I am trying to determine if it is pet (cat and dog) safe. Most of my reading indicates that toxic plants repel animals (if not by smell, then by taste), I would prefer to be assured they're ok before dispersing them throughout my house.
The plant is growing in a small bundle of roughly a dozen-or-so leaves coming all out of the same root base (like daffodils - all the leaves come together at the base). The leaves are skinny (about 1/4 inch wide at the broadest part), taper to a pointed end, are roughly 12 inches long, and sort of curl/bend over. (The leaves are essentially identical in appearance to those of a pony tail palm bonsai tree.)
Any suggestions on the identification of this plant, and whether or not it is animal safe? (Care tips would be great too--all I was told is that it is an "indoor" plant, not a decorative outdoor grass.)
Thank-you!!
AnswerAndrea,
Your palm grass is I suspect, a Dwarf Egyptian Paper Plant
Latin Name: Cyperus papyrus 'Dwarf' you can see a picture of it in flower at the following website and get more care info.

It is animal safe if that is your plant. If that is not your plant you need to email me a picture to
[email protected] and I will identify it for you. If you have more questions after looking at that website you may also email those to me. Good luck.
