QuestionMy palm leaves are turning brown, which they say is normal. But my new growths are even turning brown before they even open. What am i doing wrong!! I have over 20 house plants and this one has me confused. Also, if I can ask my new Boston fern I transplanted, all the leaves are really dry and every time I touch it they are all falling off. Please help these 2 plants have me baffled!!!
AnswerGood morning Cindy,
Since both your plants seem to be suffering from more or less the same problem I would hazard a guess that the plants are in a hot, dry atmosphere. They need to be misted frequently and in the case of the palm, the fronds can be sponged to keep them clean and dust free. Don't let the compost dry out especially that of the fern. I have a Boston fern which is outside and I water it daily. Cut off all dead fronds and on the palm remove lower fronds if they are brown and trim others if it is just the tips which are brown.
Feed them both during the growing season.
Did your Boston fern actually need transplanting? If it was pot bound and therefore did need transplanting then it should be in a pot no more than 2 inches more in diameter than the original pot.
I do hope you will be able to save both your plants. Diana
