banana trees

Question
hello i wanted to know about my dwarf cavendish banana tree. i received a gift
of 2 trees in 10 inch pots last week. Will they grow well if i repot them in larger
pots outside?they are about 4 ft. tall right now. we don't have city water and we
live next to a river. it gets very hot here in texas and i don't want them to burn
up.

Answer
Phyllis,

They will grow just fine in large pots. I reccommend that you use potting soil with some sand mixed in. They would do well in a location where they get morning sun and som shade in the afternoon so they do not get burned. When it is above 80 degrees you will have to water them daily and above 90 degrees you may have to water them twice a day so they do not dry out too much. They are a tropical jungle tree. The heat will not kill them but the sun can burn them and they do like high humidity so being near the rivier will help the humidity in the area. Do not let them sit with a lot of water in their drain trays. That could make the roots rot. Empty the drain tray an hour after watering the plants. If you have more questions feel free to write again. Good luck.
