AnswerJennifer,
Aloes do not like to be repotted. It should be groing in a sandy cactus soil. If you can't find cactus soil at your garden center you need to get a bag of play sand and mix potting soil and play sand 50/50. Your aloe needs to sit in a sunny south facing window with the drapes or blinds open from dawn to dusk. It needs to dry out well between waterings. The aloe is from the plains of South Africa where it lives in a sandy, gets little rain, the soil is very sandy and the plants generally lay on their side on the sand. They do not usually stand straight up. Only aloes with a large base will stand up.
I am not sure what you mean by you can't get it to plant in the middle because the root is curved. As I said above this plant does not normally stand straight up and I suspect that is what you are trying to do. You may be able to get 2-3 rocks and get it to stand up more by having it rest against rocks on 2-3 sides.
Absolutely do not water it until it has been dry for 4 days and an hour after you water in pour any excess water out of the drain tray so the roots do not rot and I think you will find the health improves within 3-6 months. Do not repot it again ever. A 6 in pot is large enough for a standard aloe forever. If it creates a lot of babies around the base of the plant you can gently remove them by twisting them off and plant them up in a separate pot. If you have more questions write again. Good luck.
