cut corn plant trunks

Question
My potted indoor corn corn plant came with four trunks in one pot. I cut 2 of the trunks close to the soil level. Should I treat the cut surfaces so that no bacteria or mold can penetrate & damage the root system of the remaining 2 plants which are intertwined with the cut ones?

Answer
Stella,

The roots of the 2 trunks you cut will probably send out new shoots and grow whole new tops. You can go to a garden center and pick up some pruning sealer use that to seal the cuts if you prefer. Unless you overwater the plants the cuts will dry and they will not damage the roots of the other 2 plants. This plant needs to dry out totally between waterings. If it does not the roots will begin to rot and the tops will die. Let it dry out well between waterings and you will not have those problems. Good luck.
