QuestionAre spider plants poisonous to cats?
AnswerHi Erik,
Some experts list Spider Plants as being poisonous and some say it is not. Even if it is not officially considered a poisonous plant all houseplants can be harmful to animals, especially cats. Any kind of plant can cause a potentially life threatening allergic reaction. Houseplants commonly cause stomach upset, vomiting and/or diarrhea in pets (which can be potentially life threatening in very young kittens and puppies).
It is best to keep all houseplants out of reach of pets.
A good way to keep cats from chewing on houseplants is to grow a pot of cat grass. Cats (and dogs) need a little greenery in their diets. Dogs and cats that go outside chew on the grass but cats that are kept indoors will chew on whatever greenery that is available to them, which is your houseplants. Cats will usually prefer to chew on the cat grass and leave the houseplants alone. Cat grass grows very quickly and is easy to grow. You can get a small bag of cat grass seeds at most pet stores for about $1.99
I hope this helps. If you have any questions or need additional information please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks
Tracy
