QuestionHi. I just brought a large heart leaf philodendron home from a garden center and while it was sitting on my desk, a 2-3 inch brown slug crawled out. I called the garden center and they told me to water it in a 1 gallon water/1/4cup bleach solution for the next four waterings.
Will this work? Am I risking the health of all my other plants by having this one inside? Will I find slugs all over the house? I'm considering returning it.
Thanks for your help, Melissa
AnswerMelissa,
DON'T USE BLEACH!!!!!!! Use rubbing alcohol mixed with water 50/50 to water the plant. That will kill the slugs on contact and not hurt the plant. Bleach can easily hurt the plant. You are not risking your other plants as long as you do it in the next day or so. You will not find slugs all over the house. Good luck.
