braided money tree plant

Question
Hi, I sure hope you can help me. My mother( the plant killer ) has this braided money tree plant that was beautiful, but is now slowly dying. It has five stems or trunks, im not sure what they are called, and only one of them seems to still be living and has some green on top. The others look dried up, kind of like a prune, at the bottom and feel like they are getting hollow inside. She watered once a week lightly, and the plant had no sunlight. Her living room faces north and she doesnt open her shades very often. I just brought it home and it wil have indirect sunlight and love ha ha. Please give me any suggestions on how to bring this lovely plant back to life.    Thanks

Answer
Debbie,

The dead trees in the braid will not come back to life. Tell your mother( the plant killer ) that all plants need at least enough light for your hand to make a shadow. If she is going to have plants she has to open the blinds from dawn to dusk. At your house this tree would be happier and more likely to grow and be healthy if it got direct full sun, not indirect sun. It likes sun.

Scrape a bit of bark off the inside of each of the shriveled ones. If there is no green tissue they are dead and will not com back to life. In that case you can take pruning shears and cut the dead ones out of the braid. That will let the living one develop better on it's own. If the others have green and are still alive keep them in as sunny a location as possible and they will have a better chance of coming back to life. Be very careful not to overwater them. Goodluck. Write again if you have more questions.
