QuestionHello Darlene! I have a beautiful Dracaena Marginata that has yellowed considerably. The leaves at the bottom generally point downwards instead of out or up and it will go through phases of loosing leaves (although not currently) I just can't get the dark green color back or the leaves to look healthy. I have moisture meter which mostly indicates that the plant is dry, but I still only water once a week. Thanks for your help!
AnswerDanielle,
The symptom sounds like overwatering. Is the Dracaena Marginata in a pot with a drainage hole and a drain tray under it? If not water could be building up in the bottom of the pot even though it tests dry higher in the pot. When you do water you need to empty the drain tray an hour after watering so it is not sitting in water. If it is not possible to pick it up you can empty it with a turkey baster.
The lower leaves that are yellow will not turn green again. I only water my Dracaena Marginata every 2 weeks this time of year as the days are getting shorter and the plant is going semi dormant. In the winter I let it go as long as 3 weeks and make sure it is in a bright room. Good luck.
