Need to know what kind of plant I have

Question

Plant
I e-mailed you a photo of the plant to which i am unsure of the name.  I have asked several people and no one knows what kind of plant it is. As you can see in the picture, there are mini plants (same as the large mother plant) growing off of the vines coming out of it.  Before these mini plants began to grow, the vines produced tiny white flowers in the spring/early summer.  After the flowers died, these mini plants began to grow at the base of where the flowers began.  I don't know if these plants can survive on the vines or if i am supposed to clip them and put them in the pot.  If you could identify this plant I would MUCH appreciate it!

Thanks
Krista

Answer
Krista,

Your plant appears to be a Haworthia fasciata. It is definitely a  Haworthia and there are many varieties, I believe that yours is a   fasciata. The babies are simply offshoots off the mother plant, they are not growing from the flower stalk. The flower stalk can be clipped if the flowers are long since dead and it will not affect the baby plants. If you want a second plant you can gently separate the babies from the mother and you will find they have some of their own roots, put 3-4 in a separate bowl and they will grow another whole plant. Or you can spread them out more in the bowl you have so they have more room to grow babies of their own eventually and fill your bowl even fuller. Here is a website with a lote more info about hawthorias: http://www.haworthia.com/Cultivation/Aboutgrowinghaworthias.htm

Good luck,

Darlene
