QuestionI am finding conflicting answers concerning some chicks and hens I recently planted that I found at a garage sale.
I have planted them outdoors about 3 weeks ago or so at the base of a tree.
I live in Wisconsin. My question is...Can I leave them out over the winter months and do they come back in spring, OR do I need to dig them up and bring them in??
If this is so, when should I bring them in??
I have seen many rock gardens with many many chicks and hens...do they stay out or do they have to be brought in?
Question TWO: On a BURRITO TAIL, if the little leaves are turning yellow and falling off...does this indicate TOO much water??? or NOT ENOUGH??? It is sitting in a west window with filtered light (mini blinds)?
Thanks for your advice.
AnswerNjoki,
Most hen and chicks will survive outdoors year around. There are a few tropical varieties that will not. That should have been a question to ask the previous owner when you bought them. The second best clue would be what kind of soil were they in when you bought them? Were they in outdoor garden soil? If so they are probably the outdoor variety and can be left outside. If they were in potting soil they could be a tropical variety and need to come in. You could also go back and knock on the previous owners door and ask or you can send me a close up picture and I should be able to tell. My email address is

Your Burrito tail is overwatered if it is being watered more than once a week. It is also not getting enough light, it needs full sun like a cactus, it is a sun lover, open the mini blinds fully or raise them all day long. If it was not getting enough water the leaves would shrivel. Good luck.
