Little black flying gnats?

Question
I have a problem with real tiny black flying gnats.  I set out apple cider vinegar w/ soap.  When I look at the container there is always 8 to 10 in the bottom, but, What are they and WHERE do they come from.  I had one house plant that I set outside this spring.  I have no other plants in the house.  I do have plants on an enclosed patio.  Are they plant bugs or something else.  I have also cleaned the pantry and looked at all dry good.  Help!!!!  and where do they come from

Answer
Glenda,

They are fungus gnats. They are attracted by over ripe fruit, rotting vegetables or houseplants that are being overwatered. They come from outside and are tiny enough to come through screens or tiny cracks. If they smell something rotting they will find a way in and apple cider vinegar w/ soap is the perfect attractant.  They have a fantastic sense of smell. Be very careful not to overwater your plants and the gnats will not hang around your plants. Never allow any of your plants to sit with water in the drain trays. You can spray them with rubbing alcohol and it will killl them on contact. Good luck.
