question about my boston fern

Question
Hello, I have a boston fern that was huge, beautiful & full in the summer, but after this winter it looks awful.
Because it was so large I had to keep it outside during the winter.  I live in east Texas & this past winter was mild and when it did get really cold I covered it with a blanket to keep it from freezing.
It is about 90% brown, but does have several new fronds growing with no discoloration.  Should I cut off the dead limbs that have lost all of their leaves or leave them?  Is there any hope that it could be what it once was or is it a lost cause?  Thank you so much for expert advise & your time.

Answer
Melissa,

The root system is still there. Take it to an area where you can clean it up and the dead leaves can be allowed to just blow it away. Tilt it on it's sid and strip the dead leaves and stems from the plant. You can cut them off if you would like. Be careful not to damage the new growth. Then fertilize the plant and keep i t in a bright location annd it should grow a healthy new lplant fairly guickly. Good luck.

Darlene
