My orchid is death.

Question
Hello Mrs Darlene,

I bought an orchid fourth months ago, it is my first plant and it was beautiful, the flower fall two weeks after I bought and a new one was on his way, but died before blush, and now the spike is dried.

I watered once a week and keep in a indirect sunlight in my dining room at temperature between 70-74 degrees.

What can I do for my orchid and to have the flower again.

The orchid I have is a paphiopedilum

Answer
Miguel,

Your orchid may have already been blooming for awhile when you bought it. It needs bright light just not direct sun in the afternoon. I suspect it needs a bit more sun than it is getting. It should sit in an east or west window. Mature Plants need a 15 to 20 F difference between night and day. Provide Nights of 55 to 60 F; days of 70 to 85 F.
Mature plants should never dry out between waterings. Dry air may also have contributed to your problem. Paphiopedilums need 60 to 70 percent. In the home, place on trays of moistened pebbles. In greenhouse, use a humidifier if conditions are too dry. Fertilizer Must be provided on a regular basis because most potting media have little although paphiopedilums need less fertilizer than most orchid plants. Provide The exact fertilizer you use will depend on the mix in which your plant is growing. A good general rule is to use a balanced (10-10-10, 12-12-12, or similar ratio) fertilizer "weakly, weekly." That is, fertilze every week at one quarter of the recommended dilution.

If given the proper care your plant will bloom again within another year. The s 2 sites below are worth your reading. Good luck.

Darlene
