QuestionHi. I have had my yucca elephantipes for about a year. It is doing better then I could have imagined. It is about 3 to 4 foot tall and about two foot in diameter. But the only thing is that the pot is starting to look very small. I am wanting to re-pot it but I don't know what kind of soil I should use. Do you have any suggestions. Thanks
AnswerCara,
Unless you live in the southern hemisphere do not repot it until after March 15th when the days are longer and the plant is actively growing again. If you do it earlier it will go into shock worse, it needs the longer daylight hours to recuperate faster. When you do repot it you must move it to a pot that has a diameter no more than 4 inches larger than the diameter of the pot it is now in. The new pot must have a drainage hole and a drain tray under it and it should not be a self watering pot. For soil you should use potting soil mixed with play sand in equal quantities so it is a sandy well draining mix. Once you have repotted it do not repot it again for at least 3 years. It will do better when it is slightly rootbound. If you have more questions feel free to write again. Good luck.
