QuestionI want to get my wife a gardenia for xmas. I've been reading tons about growing them indoors but can't find info on which type of light I need.....HID, MH, flouresent, incandesent, etc. It seems that the metal halide would be absolute best but real spendy. THANK YOU
AnswerJames,
You can use fluorescent but you need to use at least 2-4 tubes and keep them within 6-12 inches of the top of the plant. Here ore some web sites that will give you some good information:

If I were going to raise a gardenia I would use 2 2-tube fluorescent fixtures side by side about 10 inches above the top of the plant and watch the plant closely for signs of insects. In 2 tube fluorescent fixtures I use 1 cool white tube and 1 warm white tube. Good luck with your project. If you have more questions feel free to write again.
