I have a Cattleya orchid, my first orchid, that is getting tons of new growth...new leaves and shoots and healthy roots. I believe it is in an optimum setting; bright, indirect light on a tray with wet rocks (it sits next to an African Violet that has, I'm not kidding, 40 blossoms...I counted!). I water it once a week. It is potted in wood chips. By all accounts, it looks beautiful and healthy...but I want blooms!
What do Cattleyas need to bloom? Darkness, coolness?

It needs to get some sun in the morning and indirect light the rest of the day. It also needs a dose of high nitrogen fertilizer once a month, (25-9-9) can be used year-round at one teaspoon per gallon of water. The following websites may give you additional helpful information:
