QuestionI have a small pine tree houseplant approx 12 inches in hight and I have over watered it. I found the pot very heavy and soil saturated. The pot has stones in the bottom rather than a drain and cup. How do I dry this out w/out having to repot this plant?
Thank you
AnswerHenry,
That is a major problem with pots that do not have drainage holes. That is why I always suggest picking a plant up before watering it to see how heavy it is and if it is heavy do not water it. My only suggestion would be to get some guaze type fabric or old rags and put them over the surface of the soil and hold them on the pot with rubber bands. Then tilt the pot at an angle on the edge of the sink with the bottom of the pot slightly higher than the rim and let it sit there for several hours to drain as much water off as possible. I do suggest that in the spring you repot it into a pot with a drain hole or remove it from this pot and drill a hole in the pot and put a clear plastic drain tray under it. Norfolk Island Pine Trees hate being overwatered so be very careful until you can get this accomplished. Good luck.
