QuestionMy Aloe plant was not looking very good, so I decided to repot it.....well, the
plants just came out of the soil easily....there was no root system....can I root
the plants in water, or do I just poke the plants back into the soil? I just read to
not overwater the plant......that was probably my problem in the first place. How
do I get roots on these plants?
AnswerSherry,
NO! You cannot root them in water! Root them in sandy soil. To repot them use a sandy cactus soil and just poke the base into the cactus soil in a small pot where the aloes cover at least 50% of the surface of the soil. Then water them very lightly, dump any excess water out of the drain tray and set them on a sunny south windowsill. Then do not water until they have been bone dry for a week. They are desert plants and need lots of sun and dry conditions like cactus. They will grow roots all by themselves. Good luck.
