QuestionHi, I decided to get my mother-in-law something different this year for xmas, which I did, when I found a pineapple plant, am trying to care for it, till I give her at xmas. Ive read up alittle about it on-line, plenty of sunlight & not too cold or draughts, but my plant started off good its with fruit, but now the leaves are now going brown & dry on the ends?? is this normal?? the soil is still moist. What am I doing wrong, please help Anne
AnswerHi Anne,
Your pineapple plant does need a lot of light and should be right in front of a sunny window that is left uncovered throughout the day. Brown leaf tips can occur if the light is not strong enough.
Proper watering is also important. I am assuming that you did not move your pineapple to a larger pot. If you did, then that may explain the problems you are having. If it is in the right sized pot, then you should allow the top inch of soil to dry in between waterings. You may have been keeping the soil too moist and that will cause brown leaf tips.
With proper light, pot size and watering, the leaves should stay a healthy green color.
