Yucca tree as a gift

Question
I recently inherited a yucca tree and I'm a little unsure on how to care for it.  While being transported to my house one of the stalks broke off.  I pulled off the bottom leaves and kept it in water until it rooted.  It's now in dirt and seems to be doing fine.  The tree that the stalk broke off of is the one thats been giving me problems.  I noticed that there were not a lot of roots and it seems as if more leaves are turning weak and yellowish instead of the new leaves growing.  Also for years it was kept directly in front of a window, now I have it further from a window and the stalks are starting to twist and bend.  I'm afraid it might snap due to the weight.  What should I do?  I don't have room to keep it directly in front of a window.

Answer
Hi Keena,

Unfortunately, plants are not like furniture in that they cannot be moved to locations that are convenient to us. Yuccas that are adapted to strong light cannot be moved to reduced light without negative consequences. The symptoms you described are consistent with lack of light.

There is no substitute for strong natural light so if you cannot move your Yucca, then you will lose it. Given your description of the poor root quality, it may already be too late to save your Yucca.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
