my indoor banana plant.

Question
re-potted. It is supposed to be a dwarf plant that will eventually grow bananas.  I had it outside in the summer, once the weather changed I repotted it and brought it in the house.  The taller it gets the bigger the leaves get and the previous leaves die and fall off.  Is this unusual and I noticed that it takes a lot longer for the leaves to get its full color and design.  What is really amazing is the plant was really small and it looks like it might get too big for me to keep inside.  Please advise.

Answer
Hi Shirley,

I am not sure just what your question is, but I think you are wondering how big it will get.

Banana plants will stay as dwarfs if they are kept in small pots and in indoor light. Yours has grown a lot because you had it outside where the light is much more conducive to larger, faster growth. The growth rate will slow down now that you have it inside.

Banana plants have one main trunk and growing tip. That means they only grow taller, never wider. So as long as your Banana plant remains healthy, it will continue to grow taller and will eventually outgrow its space. There is nothing you can do about that, although indoor light will slow the growth rate down.

Newer leaves do get larger so these plants often become top-heavy as they get older.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
