QuestionI had this huge two tone leaf plant sitting by my pond in our yard. It was growing a little out of control and to cut it back some I broke off a couple pieces and tried to root them by putting it in a vase filled with water. Over the span of a month most of the leaves died because it did not root fast. But I took those leaves off and put the remaining survivors back in water to see if it would root.
This morning I checked to see if it needed any added water and saw this small worm-like with a round head on one end swimming very fast in the water. Looking through the vase from the side they looked clear but looking down on them from the top, they looked black and were very fast. Do you have ANY idea what they can be?
AnswerDarlene,
No, I do not, it was something that had laid eggs on the leaves apparently. Most plants will not root from just the leaves, it must be a stem with at least 6 leaves and you remove thee 2 lowest leaves to make the cutting. Then I reccommend that you dip your cutting in rooting hormone and insert in in a fresh pot of potting soil and treat it lie you would an established plant. It should root within 30 days. Water it lighly normally. This works much better than rooting cuttings in water. Good luck.
