QuestionMy lady palm tree is in a 15 gal. pot... I water it once a week, but have noticed that some of the roots are starting to push on the pot... should I repot now, and what size should I use, also, does it need any special soil or additives? ... Thanks
AnswerHi Gladis,
The presence of a some roots poking out of drainage hole is commonly thought to be a sign that the plant needs to be repotted. In fact, that is not a good indicator for repotting.
As long as there is a enough soil in the pot to keep the roots moist for 3 or more days after a thorough watering, then there is no need to repot. If your Rhapis palm seems to dry out a bit too much, then water it a bit more frequently, but don't repot it.
If your palm has been in the same pot for a year or more, then you should use any stadard fertilizer at half-strength monthly. No other additives are advisable.
