Jades have a thin, waxy outer coating that helps it retain moisture in hot, dry climates. If a leaf dies (from too little water, too much heat or almost any other reason), then the waxy coating crystallizes and that is the sparkley stuff that you see.
In my experience, excessive soil dryness and temps above 90 degrees are the most common causes associated with this symptom. But I would not rely on that as a definitive cause of the leaves dying.
