QuestionI have a Gold Capella Arboricola it was potted in a huge plastic pot was doing well untill reciently it has started losing leaves and stems, just the slightes touch and they fall off, I took it outta the pot of dirt and have it now in water... is looking terrible do you have any advice before it is a gonner? I know some plants don't like plastic pot that they'd rather be in clay pots could this of been where I went wrong... the same is happening to my ficus tree and schefflera aroricola:))) Thanks:)
AnswerSavie,
I doubt the problem was the plastic pot but the size of the pot. Most house plants like to be in pots that their roots just fit into or where they are eve a bit rootbound. They are more secure there and it is not so easy to overwater them. Also all three plants you mentioned love the sun and start dropping leaves like you mentioned when they are not getting enough sun. Get the Gold Capella Arborico back in a smaller pot. Move all 3 plants to a very sunny location in an east or west window and leave the drapes or blinds open all day for them. Also be very careful not to overwater them. Only water them when the surface of the soil has felt very dry for 3 days and do not allow the to sit with a lot of water in their drain trays. Empty them an hour after watering, if you can't dump them suction them out with a turkey baster. Good luck.
