Majestic palm (in door)

Question
Hello Will.
I had Majestic palm, after6 months repoted in larger container and moved it in darker corner of the room, plant died :(
Now I decided to use same soil for new palm(Majestic, Ravenea Rivularis)and notice a small thin red-brown color worms about 1-1 1/5" long.
Is it good for plant?
Did worm cause "death" in any way?
Should I use same soil?
Thank you.
Olga

Answer
Hi Olga,

The worms did not cause your Majesty palm to die. Majesty palms are very poor indoor plants because they require a lot of light, precise watering, and they are highly susceptible to spider mites on the fronds. This is one plant I never recommend to anyone because they have such a bad track record as indoor plants. I only wish you had contacted me before you purchased a second one!

Repotting your new Majesty is not going to help and will probably stress it out. So that makes your question about the soil moot. In general, it is not a good idea to re-use potting soil for indoor plants because there may be other invisible pathogens (bacteria, fungus, pests, etc.) in it. If you have outdoor plants, you can safely use the soil with them.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
