Fiddle-Leaf Fig

Question
Hello,
I recently bought a fiddle-leaf fig/ficus lyrata. It is over 6 feet tall. Recently I started to see that the ends of the leaves are brown and seem burned or crusty. (The part of the leaf that is brown can easily crack). I have been reading on the web about this. Is this due to overwatering? or can the pot I bought be too big?
I bought a big pot that does not have holes in the bottom to drain, however, we did drill some small holes in the bottom so the plant would drain. I can send a picture if you like. I love this plant I am just not too sure how to care for it correctly. Your help is appreciated. Thank you.

Answer
Hi Rose,

Thanks for the photos. I cannot see the pot clearly but it appears that it is too large and the extra soil is retaining moisture around the roots for too long. The pot that it was grown in was the correct size for it. The drainage holes must be at least as large as a dime in order to be effective.

In addition, I think you have a serious light problem. Your Lyrata needs to be very close to an uncovered window and I don't see one anywhere in sight. The light in the corner just is not adequate.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
