Ornamental Pineapple

Question
My plant's pineapple turned orange and was about 4" in diameter. It was making the plant top heavy and I cut the pineapple off of the plant.  An employee where I bought the plant told me to cut off part of the pineapple and plant in soil, and the pineapple part will grow more plants.  Is this true?  What do I do with the root and foliage part left in the pot?

Answer
Sharon,

Yes you can cut the top off the pineapple, let it dry for a few days then plant it in a pot of soin and it will grow another plant. Keep the root and foliage part in the sun and there is a chance it will send out a side shoot as a neew plant. If not it will shrivel and die and you can pitch it at that time but as long as it is green it may send out another side shoot with another pineapple if it is getting enough sun. Pineapples are from Hawaii and are sun worshippers. Good luck.
